SmartFactoryOWL in Berlin: Minister Wanka Praised Researchers from CIIT Lemgo

(Lemgo, 31.08.2016) Researchers from CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) caused a furor at the open house day of Federal Chancellery and Federal Ministries in Berlin. A model plant demonstrated how the factory of the future could look like – not only citizens but also Federal Research Minister Professor Johanna Wanka were impressed.

On the last weekend of August the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) traditionally presents innovations that contribute to Germany’s competitiveness. Researchers from Lemgo presented their approach for the hightech-strategy of the Federal Government and therewith represented the technology region Ostwestfalen-Lippe.

Approaches for the intelligent factory of the future are developed under the roof of CIIT. Both research institutes of CIIT – Fraunhofer Application Center IOSB-INA and the Institute Industrial IT (inIT) of the OWL University were invited to Berlin to present their research findings to a general public. Federal Research Minister Wanka emphasized in her speech that production will change in the future. Examples for changing technologies were presented in Berlin. The model plant of the SmartFactoryOWL is a versatile assembly system that mounts customized products efficiently and in a resource-friendly way. Also it is intuitively operable for the humans. Wanka praised the researchers from Lemgo for the efforts being made to transport such a complex model plant to Berlin. The assembly system attracted thousands of visitors to the BMFB building. Solutions for the factory of the future could be experienced lively.

For the second time this year solutions from Lemgo in the field of Industry 4.0 were in demand from BMBF. At this year’s Hanover Fair solutions from the factory of the future were presented at BMBF-booth. Even back than Professor Wanka convinced herself of the intelligent technical solutions. Virtual Post-its, the follower of data glasses or plug-and-produce techniques, researchers from Lemgo presented intelligent developments in the field of automatization technology. Wanka was impressed of the presented ideas and praised the CIIT for its engagement in the leading-edge-cluster “it’s OWL”. The collaboration if industry and science works very well.

The model plant of Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and OWL University is supported by components and solutions of the industry partners of CIIT – Phoenix Contact, Weidmüller, OWITA, ISI Automation, MSF-Vathauer, Bosch Rexroth and Aventics.
