inIT Organizes Expert Conference “Big Data for Production“

There was a strong interest in the expert conference “Big Data for Production” that took place on Wednesday, 16. November 2016 at SmartFactoryOWL. More than 40 participants of the regional industry listened to the lectures of Professor Oliver Niggemann, Director of the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence of Institute Industrial IT (inIT) of OWL University and CLAAS and Resolto Informatik GmbH.

Prof. Niggemann gave the listeners an understanding of the abstract term “Big Data” and gave an insight into current research projects of the field of data processing and machine learning. Thilo Stöckel and Heinrich Warkentin of CLAAS explained how to implement condition monitoring to agricultural machines. CLAAS also uses Big Data Technologies in factory fields. Resolto Informatik GmbH offers concrete solutions in the field of predictive maintenance. Tobias Hoppe presented the results of a joint research project of inIT and Fraunhofer IOSB-INA.

Following Dr. Alexander Maier and colleagues of Fraunhofer Application Center IOSB-INA demonstrated technologies of Big Data at SmartFactoryOWL and Big Data Lab. Data can be used for an energy efficient use of production plants, for a better utilization or a remote-controlled maintenance – Big Data is the basis for many industrial approaches.

In 2017 the network “Big Data for Production” will be established with the aim of providing an opportunity for a regular exchange regarding new research approaches and application possibilities. A further scientific specialization will take place on Monday, 16. January 2016 in the workshop “Data Processing and Machine Learning” at SmartFactoryOWL.
