Welcome to inIT

The 2022/2023 education and professional training year has begun. With the reform of the education sector, new job profiles were created. The Institute of Industrial IT (inIT) at Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts is also taking a new approach to education by offering professional training in two new occupational areas.

For the first time at inIT, we are educating a digitalisation management clerk and an IT specialist for data and process analysis. A reorganization will specialize the very broad field of application of the professions.

The IT specialist for data and process analysis is essentially concerned with the analysis of data sources and the provision of data, as well as with the analysis and optimization of work and business processes.

The digitalization management clerk, on the other hand, deals with the development of IT solutions, support and operation of software and hardware solutions, controlling and contract design.

In both professions, the increasingly important issue of data protection and IT security is a key topic.

The team of the institute welcomes the two new trainees Jannik Peters (IT specialist for data and process analysis) and Tim Esau (digitalization managment clerk) at inIT and TH OWL.

Jannik Peters and Tim Esau have now been at inIT for over two weeks and give us their first summary in an interview:

Tell us something about yourselves - what did you do before you started at inIT?

Tim: I graduated from school. I then trained as an information technology assistant (ITA) at Lüttfeld Berufskolleg on the Innovation Campus in Lemgo. Then I was looking for an apprenticeship for a year and did a part-time job. Now I'm here at inIT.

Jannik: After graduating from school, I rushed into studying computer science. I soon realized that this choice was a mistake: I lacked practical relevance. Then I started looking for an apprenticeship. In the process, I very soon became aware of the inIT of TH OWL.

How did you notice the apprenticeship at the inIT?

Jannik: I was looking for information on the TH OWL website about the possibilities of a dual study program. This is when I came across the advertisement for training as an IT specialist for data and process analysis. This immediately appealed to me.

Tim: I became aware of the job posting through the employment agency. Of course, I also applied in other areas, but I like the mix of digitalization management clerks best.

Why an education at an institute, at our university in Lemgo?

Tim: I informed myself about the inIT on its website. I found the history of the inIT very interesting and outstanding. As well as the proximity to the technical university. I'm working on the ravages of time here: namely on and with future-oriented technologies.

Jannik: The inIT impressed me as being very future-oriented and innovative in its presentation. I like that. I also found the job interview very positive.  So my decision was made.

What do you think makes this profession so interesting?

Jannik: I am a person who likes to "dig in" to new challenges. I have a good grasp of things and good analytical thinking skills. If I now compare this with the content of the job, it fits together very well. I think that these are exactly the skills that are needed in this profession - in addition, the analysis of data and processes is becoming increasingly important. I see huge potential there.

Tim: During my education as an ITA, I have already done many internships in the field of information technology. In addition, I'm interested in commercial issues - so the mix of digitalization management clerk is just perfect.

Have your expectations been met in the first few days?

Tim: I've only been at inIT for about two weeks now, but my expectations have been met. I think it's great how you're received here. The atmosphere seems almost like a familiar one. We have an office with second-year trainees: We got on very well with them straight away - we get help from all our co-workers if we have any questions.

Jannik: I was also very surprised about the very flat hierarchies at inIT: I can only agree with Tim. The very familiar environment motivates me to complete my training very well.

Which areas of your education are you most excited about - or to put it another way: Which area do you feel most passionate about?

Jannik: Due to my love of detail, I like to deal with possibilities and tools that allow me to analyze things quickly and thus arrive at solutions quickly and efficiently. I am also interested in the optimization and modularization of process cycles.

Tim: In addition to IT topics, I also enjoy dealing with mercantile issues. I'm particularly interested in the area of procurement. This is particularly interesting in the public sector, as there is certainly more to pay attention to here than in companies.

What do you like most about working on campus?

Jannik and Tim: We find the interaction between business, science and education very interesting. There is certainly a lot of potential for innovation.

What advice or statement would you share with young people who are interested in an education at TH OWL/inIT?

Jannik and Tim: Currently, this question is still difficult to answer. However, we would give everyone the advice to approach the TH and the inIT and to start a conversation. Without open communication, you can't get to know and learn what's going on there.

The team wishes you a fantastic time at the inIT and above all a lot of fun during the education.
