During their time in school, Anas Ahmed and Noureldin Mohammed are gaining their first experiences in science at inIT and receiving valuable guidance for their future educational paths.
What does research in the field of artificial intelligence actually look like? Which topics fascinate me, and which academic path would I like to pursue in the future? With these questions in mind, Anas Ahmed and Noureldin Mohammed from Egypt have come to Lemgo. As part of an international internship at the German Evangelical High School in Cairo (DEO Cairo), the two students are gaining their first insights into the world of research at inIT.
“The internship at inIT gives us the opportunity to get an up-close look at AI research and discover which topics might inspire us in our future studies. We’re particularly impressed by how openly and warmly we’ve been welcomed here,” say Anas Ahmed and Noureldin Mohammed.
An Introduction to AI Research
In the Mathematics and Data Science research group led by Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann, they explore current issues related to AI-driven image generation. In the process, they gain an initial understanding of how scientific research works and the opportunities and challenges presented by current AI research.
“Artificial intelligence is developing at a rapid pace. This makes it all the more important to give young people the opportunity early on to experience real research and discover their own interests. We are very pleased to be able to support Anas and Noureldin on their journey,” says Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann.
Exchange of ideas and guidance for the path ahead
The two are particularly fascinated by the open and warm atmosphere at the Innovation Campus Lemgo. Both at inIT and beyond, they were welcomed warmly from the very beginning and actively integrated into campus life. Ana Sarcevic, program coordinator in the Department of Computer Science and Automation at TH OWL, played a major role in this. Among other things, she invited them to lectures and various events, such as a follow-up session for the internship semester at Hadi Plast.
Ana and Noureldin were also welcomed with open arms within the research group. In particular, the in-depth discussion with research assistant Helmand Shayan left a lasting impression: He took plenty of time to talk about his doctoral research and give the two students a behind-the-scenes look at the day-to-day life of a researcher.
Their time at the Innovation Campus Lemgo now offers them not only exciting insights into modern AI research but, above all, important guidance for the start of their studies—regardless of where they choose to pursue their academic careers.
