Change of leadership at inIT

(Lemgo, 20.06.2017) – Professor Volker Lohweg takes over the lead at Institute Industrial IT (inIT) of OWL University. At the advisory board meeting last Wednesday it was decided that the former board member Lohweg becomes successor of Professor Jürgen Jasperneite, who was the founding director of the Institute since 11 years. In the last year inIT celebrated its 10th anniversary.

As an enabler for the implementation of IT in factories, the ways are paved for continuing the success story in the last years. “With a smile and a heavy heart I may pass hand over the baton to my long-time management board colleague”, says Jasperneite, who will devote himself instead to the expansion of Fraunhofer in Lemgo.

With Lohweg and the Vice Director Professor Oliver Niggemann, the Institute consciously focuses on continuity. The inIT is one of the leading research institutes in the field of Industrial IT with its interdisciplinary board with 7 professors from the fields of Engineering Sciences, Information Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Cognition Psychology, a research team from 29 different nations and more than 70 employees. Founding member Lohweg explains: “It can be expected that we will strengthen our strengths, expand our competencies and will further grow”. Lohweg will focus on computer intelligence. “This will be - besides intelligent networking, Information and Communication Technologies, Human-Machine Interaction and data security and authentication – our research strength.”

The competence of inIT tipped the balance in 2009 for founding of Germany’s first Fraunhofer Application Center. Director Jasperneite also focuses on growth: Besides the SmartFactoryOWL, that is run by Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and OWL University, also the construction of a new Fraunhofer building for up to 100 researchers is planned.

There is a high dynamic in Lemgo. The location shall develop into an international innovation hub in the field of digital economy. Goals that shall be realized with key players like Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the research and technology center CIIT and inIT.
