Communication and image processing in automation

inIT conference proceedings published

The second volume "Communication and Image Processing in Automation 2018" of the Institute for Industrial Information Technology (inIT) was recently published as OPEN ACCESS publication. The proceedings include the best contributions of the annual colloquium "KommA 2018" and the annual colloquium "BVAu 2018". The colloquia took place on November 30 and December 1, 2018, at the SmartFactoryOWL research and demonstration factory in Lemgo, Germany. SmartFactoryOWL is a joint facility of Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and the OWL University of Applied Sciences and serves as a vendor-independent and open Industry 4.0 research and demonstration platform.

The latest research results in the fields of industrial communication technology and image processing presented in this conference volume extend the current state of research and technology. The illustrative application examples from the field of automation included put the results into direct application context.

The editors are Prof. Jürgen Jasperneite (conference director KommA) and Prof. Volker Lohweg (conference director BVAu). At the OWL University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Jürgen Jasperneite represents the field of computer networks with a focus on industrial communication. His research interest is in the area of intelligent automation and networking for cyberphysical systems (CPS). Prof. Volker Lohweg represents the Discrete Systems group with the WG Image Processing and Pattern Recognition and Sensor and Information Fusion in research and teaching. His research focuses on Technical Cognitive Systems with a focus on industrial real-time image processing and pattern recognition as well as sensor and information fusion for the application areas document security and automation.
