International Exchange

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite serves as Opponent at Aalborg University

The participants in the examination process congratulate Sebastian Damsgaard on the successful defense of his dissertation at Aalborg University.

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite (inIT / Fraunhofer IOSB-INA) recently traveled to Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark to serve as the opponent for the doctoral defense of Sebastian Damsgaard. In this international examination process, the opponent is tasked with critically challenging the thesis and testing its scientific depth through a public dialogue with the candidate. AAU is consistently ranked among the top three engineering universities in Europe.

The dissertation, titled "5G Enabled Reliable Real-Time Communication Solution for Industry 4.0," provides an important empirical foundation for the transition from wired to wireless systems in manufacturing. The research focused on 5G standalone models, reliability through multi-connectivity, and the optimization of computing power via offloading to edge-cloud solutions.

"The work provides excellent insights into determining whether 5G or WiFi, using currently available commercial off-the-shelf components, can provide the necessary quality of service to replace wired communication systems for reconfigurable manufacturing systems," Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite noted.

During a subsequent laboratory tour at AAU, several promising starting points for future joint research activities between Lemgo and Aalborg were identified.
