Prof. Dr. Ulrich Büker, deputy director of inIT, visited the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. The focus was on expanding joint research projects and facilitating the exchange of students and staff.
Joint perspectives for research and exchange
Last week, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Büker visited AGH to strengthen existing connections and explore new opportunities for collaboration. During discussions with Prof. Dr. Paweł Skruch, Prof. Dr. Marek Długosz, Prof. Dr. Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska and other colleagues, specific plans for collaborative research projects and bilateral exchanges were formulated.
Common ground in research
The participating scientists have a range of complementary research interests: Paweł Skruch is a professor at AGH, as well as being a manager and principal engineer in AI at Aptiv, an international automotive supplier. Marek Długosz specialises in complex control algorithms and autonomous systems. In collaboration with his students, he has developed an autonomous delivery robot and an electric vehicle, among other things. Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska is a professor of artificial intelligence and the director of the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at AGH. Ulrich Büker is the head of the Intelligent Systems research group at inIT, which focuses on application-oriented solutions in automation technology and new mobility concepts. His many years of industry experience in autonomous driving will contribute valuable expertise to the collaboration.
The thematic proximity offers numerous opportunities for future cooperation in terms of both scientific exchange and technology transfer.
During his visit, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Büker gave a guest lecture in which he presented current research projects at inIT, including the NeMo.bil project investigating a novel swarm-based mobility concept and the enableATO project investigating automated rail transport as part of a sustainable mobility strategy for rural areas.
Insights into the campus and strengthening international partnerships
In addition to the professional exchange, the visit also provided an opportunity to get to know the AGH campus. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Büker was impressed by the facilities, size and atmosphere of the traditional university in the centre of Krakow:
"I really enjoyed my visit to AGH – both the university itself and the collegial openness with which we discussed joint research approaches and exchange opportunities. I see great potential in this partnership and look forward to further cooperation."
The visit follows on from last year's exchange, when a delegation from AGH visited inIT in Lemgo. The discussions in Krakow form a solid basis for future joint projects.
