inIT board member strengthens European network of excellence for AI

Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann admitted to ELLIS Society e. V.

The ELLIS Society e. V. has accepted Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann as a new member. ELLIS connects leading AI researchers in Europe, promotes excellent research and strengthens Europe's technological sovereignty. This expands inIT's international visibility and collaboration opportunities in cutting-edge artificial intelligence projects.

ELLIS strengthens European AI research

On 11 September 2025, Markus Lange-Hegermann was accepted into the ELLIS Society e. V. The European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) is a Europe-wide network of leading researchers in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The aim of the association is to pool excellence in AI research, promote scientific exchange across national borders and secure Europe's long-term international competitiveness. Around 1,000 researchers are currently part of the ELLIS network.

Networking and knowledge transfer

For inIT, membership means gaining direct access to a robust European network and specialised programmes and formats, including workshops, fellowship initiatives and the ELLIS doctoral community. These opportunities include joint research activities, guest stays and the promotion of young talent in inIT's core fields of data science and reliable AI.

A door opener for European cooperation

"Being accepted into the ELLIS Society is a valuable recognition of our research and a door opener for new collaborations in Europe. Together with colleagues in the ELLIS programmes, we want to further develop robust, comprehensible and application-oriented AI methods – and contribute this expertise to projects with industry and research partners," says Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann.
