This year, the Institute Industrial IT (inIT) at the Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe (TH OWL) and the Institute for Automation and Communication (ifak e.V.) will once again host the 16th annual colloquium on Communication in Automation – KommA 2025. The colloquium serves as a forum for science and industry in German-speaking countries for all technical/scientific issues relating to industrial communication.
KommA 2025 – 16th Annual Colloquium on Communication in Automation
This time, the renowned forum will take place on 11–12 November 2025 in Magdeburg. As Prof. Dr. Ulrich Jumar (ifak e.V.) has retired, Prof. Dr. Lisa Underberg (ifak e.V.) and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite (inIT) will jointly take over the conference management of KommA 2025 for the first time. As always, despite the colloquium's focus on technology and applications, the scientific aspect will remain at the forefront. All abstracts will therefore be reviewed by at least two members of the programme committee. Recognised experts will exchange views on the latest developments in industrial communication and critically examine them.
Review of KommA 2024
On 6 November 2024, the 15th annual colloquium on Communication in Automation – KommA – took place at SmartFactoryOWL. The colloquium comprised 21 specialist presentations divided into four thematic sessions: new technologies, asset administration shell and digital twin, performance evaluations, and security and system integration. The topics ranged from the integration of 5G in industrial applications to technologies for digital twins and safety-critical communication systems. The poster session promoted intensive exchange and in-depth technical discussions, once again confirming KommA as a beneficial platform for practical insights and sound research results.
Conference proceedings of the KommA 2024 annual colloquium
The two conference chairs, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite (inIT) and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Jumar (ifak e.V.), have published conference proceedings entitled Communication in Automation: Contributions from the KommA 2024 Annual Colloquium. Prof. Jasperneite emphasises: "We are always delighted to welcome so many experts to our Innovation Campus Lemgo for KommA. We value the open exchange of ideas, which allows us to share knowledge, provide new impetus and critically discuss the technologies of the future together." With this in mind, the conference proceedings have been published as an open access book.
Partner colloquia KommA and BVAu
There is also a conference proceedings volume for the partner colloquium Image Processing in Automation – BVAu 2024, which took place on 5 November 2024 directly before the KommA, entitled Image Processing. Selected contributions from the annual colloquium BVAu 2024, edited by Volker Lohweg. The BVAu will be held again in Lemgo in 2026.
