Open Factory Day 2026

On May 9, 2025, SmartFactoryOWL will open its doors and invite you to a day full of exciting insights and hands-on activities in an impressive setting.

At various stations, you can gain insights into robotics, artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0 technologies and exchange ideas with campus staff. Whether it's soldering, an interactive AI exhibition, trying out deepfakes, a hands-on workshop on cybersecurity, or a glimpse into the production of the future—there's something for everyone in our program!

Program highlights:

  • IA Lab: Discover innovation!
Explore a variety of machines and tools. Highlights include soldering basics and 3D printer demonstrations. You can also design your own goodie and take it home with you. In regular operation, the IA Lab offers start-ups and students an impressive selection of machines, materials, and tools for prototyping, while also supporting them in research and teaching.
  • Photo booth: Creative real-time experiences!
Be amazed by Neural Style Transfer: select a style, smile for the camera, and your personal AI artwork will be created, which you can take home with you directly on your smartphone. A vivid example of how artificial intelligence enhances creative processes in real time.
  • IMPOSTER: Fascinating – but also dangerous!
Learn how deepfake techniques can be used to create deceptively real images and videos – and why this also poses risks. Attackers sometimes use such technologies to obtain data and information or even trigger financial transactions, for example through manipulated video conferences. In our demo, you can experience for yourself how quickly your own face can become that of a famous personality.
  • TEACHER Demonstrator: Experience the future of production!
Learn how modular production stations are linked together to solve complex manufacturing tasks. The TEACHER Demonstrator—a platform for new technologies, education, and industrial collaboration through practical experimental research—gives you exciting insights into modern production processes, live on site and with the help of a dynamic 3D simulation of the production line. After the demonstration, you can take home a fidget spinner from the production line.
  • Energy efficiency of AI: What does a prompt cost?
Get on the ergometer and reveal what would otherwise remain hidden: As you pedal, you will see live how much energy different AI models consume – and why small, decentralized, and specialized solutions are often a better choice than large systems. At the same time, the demo shows that AI, when used correctly, can save more energy than it consumes. A vivid insight into the sustainable future of smart technologies.
  • “Hack it yourself”: Hands-on cybersecurity
How do people who find security vulnerabilities work before others can exploit them? In this interactive workshop, you can get involved yourself: cracking passwords, finding hidden codes, and identifying vulnerabilities—all within the law and as part of a team. This allows you to experience how cybersecurity works and which thought patterns are important when protecting digital systems. More information will follow shortly.
  • Co-Creative: From building blocks to AI art
How does an idea become a digital work of art? In the interactive “Co-Creative” demonstrator, visitors design their own shapes with building blocks. An AI then transforms these into detailed images – for example, in the style of the Weser Renaissance, futuristic, or as a realistic bird's-eye view. This shows how AI complements creative processes and opens up new perspectives.

Fraunhofer IOSB-INA has also planned other great hands-on activities, games, and lab tours for the day.

The Open Factory Day is part of the open house at the Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe (TH OWL). So there will be many other activities and events throughout the Innovation Campus Lemgo for you to discover on that day.

SmartFactoryOWL is a joint facility of Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and TH OWL. Come by and take a look at the factory of the future! Registration is not necessary.
